How do your repaint a frame that frames a professionally mounted oil painting?
I love fine art but the piece I bought is professionally framed and matted in a ugly gold painted wooden frame, the frame is intricate with carved corners and edges but I would like it to match the other paintings in my home which are professionally framed in white washed wood frames, I have lookes at the back and would not even know how to begin to remove the oil painting from the frame…
Most frames from frame shops are “factory” finished meaning really hard durable paint, if the frame isn’t an antique it could be a resin or composite and not real wood underneath. Certain woods like pine or ash are used most commonly for the whitewashed look.
If you can’t afford a new frame, maybe carefully sponge a diluted white paint on the frame (use painter’s tape to protect the glass) or take a dry brush and just touch the raised portions of the carving with white, too add a little white accent to the frame so its not so gold
